In India, people keep fast on the occasion of any festival or festival. According to science, fasting has many positive effects on the human body. Repair work starts from inside the body. While some people keep fast without drinking water, most people consume fruits during this period. Some people also eat dry fruits during fasting. If you also eat dry fruits during fast and include figs in it, then wait a moment.
As soon as the name of dry fruits comes in India, cashews, raisins, walnuts, almonds and figs are mentioned. But very few people know that fig is actually a non-vegetarian fruit. Yes, you read it right. Due to the process through which this fruit is prepared, many people consider it non-vegetarian. Let us tell you the facts behind this claim.
This is how figs are made
Wasps play an important role in the production of figs. It can be said that fig and wasp depend on each other. Both species cannot survive without each other. Figs depend on wasps for pollination while wasps use the figs as a breeding ground. This whole process works like this.
1. The wasp enters the fig: Female wasps enter the fig through a small pore (called an ostiole) to lay their eggs. As they enter, they unknowingly carry pollen from that fig.
2. Pollination: As the wasps move in, pollen from the previous fig is spread to the flower parts of the new fig, causing pollination.
3. Wasp Life Cycle: The wasp lays its eggs inside the fig and the larvae develop within the tissues of the fig. The male wasps incubate the eggs first, separate the female wasps without eggs and then die inside the fig. Female wasps hatch from the eggs, collect pollen and leave the fig in search of another fig on which to lay their eggs.
4. Death and absorption of wasps: Many wasps that enter the fig tree never get out. After they die, their bodies are broken down by the fig’s enzymes and absorbed as nutrients by the fig.
This entire cycle is important for both species because the figs depend on the wasps for pollination and the wasps depend on the figs for reproduction.
